JUST DOGS is dedicated to four dogs. They didn't belong to me, but I cared for each of them from time to time. And over the years I grew to know and love them. All four live at the rainbow bridge now, but they have left me lots of happy memories of their quirks and their amazingly special, loving personalities.
MONTROSE was a tall, muscle-bound hound. He had a strong deep bark and he seemed like he was all business. Truly he was a cuddly affectionate boy, eager to please and be loved. He would bring back a tennis ball as many times as you could throw it, and he never missed a chance to roll onto his side for a belly rub.
ALEX knew her own mind. She would guard a sock or a favorite toy with her every ounce of energy. She loved to swim and to ride in the car with the windows open. She would bark all the while---filled with the joy of the ride!
TAZ was a little bundle of lovable. He loved his treats and his pillow by the kitchen door. He went everywhere with his people and hated to be left alone. His backyard was his kingdom. In the summer he would stretch out in the shade of the lilac bush and watch the world go by.
BONKY (Bianca) weighed over 100 pounds but carried herself delicately. Her self-appointed job was to keep track of all the goings on of the mice and chipmunks who lived in her country yard. She was quiet and regal. She was a true lady.
JUST DOGS is also dedicated to the string of Golden Retrievers I have come to know through my work with the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin. Some, like Bear, passed through my life in one afternoon. Others, like Lady, stayed for months while they learned--often for the first time in their lives--what it was like to be a "regular dog."
